Jack Hunt, had been in and out of the hospital since 1992 when he found a persistent cough to be something much more serious. A cardiologist diagnosed Jack with cardiomyopathy on his 44th birthday. Jack was told that he would not survive unless he had a transplant right away.
Jack decided that he would refuse to accept the death sentence that his medical professionals attempted to deliver. He was determined that he could beat it. Jack lead a productive life until eventually his heart became so weak that he was having difficulty walking a flight of stairs in his home.
In January 2006 he received a pacemaker, only to have his body reject it. Jack was considered to be in the final stages of heart failure. At this point, Jack was placed on the transplant and referred to the University Hospital in Cincinnati for compatibility testing. Fortunately for Jack, he had a common blood type, which more than doubled his chances of finding a compatible match. Eight weeks later, Jack would receive Kyle’s healthy, strong and athletic heart and his recovery would be nothing more than picture perfect. His doctors have dubbed him the model for excellence in his recovery.
Since then, Jack has partnered with Carl Hunlock to support many events relating to fund raising for the American Heart Association. Both Jack and Carl are passionate about educating the public as to the dire need for organ donation.
